Welcome to Sincidium, a pioneering platform designed to improve student learning, help educators give better feedback, safeguard academic integrity and promote student competency in an era increasingly dominated by AI.
We are Ben and Oliver, founders of Sincidium and enthusiasts of the transformative potential of AI in education. Our voyage into the realm of AI in education began with a shared epiphany at the University of Melbourne’s startup hub, fuelled by the realisation that the landscape of learning was evolving at an unprecedented pace. AI’s footprint in education, once subtle, has now expanded across all levels, challenging traditional paradigms from the authenticity of essays on classic literature to the burgeoning dependency on AI tools like ChatGPT among students.
Our exploration into AI’s role in education over the past months has led us to the forefront of innovation. Glimpsing into the future, we’ve become convinced that the solution to contemporary challenges echoes from the educational methodologies of the past.
Historically, oral evaluations and conversational assessments, from Socratic dialogues to Oxford debates, have been revered for their ability to authentically assess knowledge. Yet, the drive towards standardisation and the pressures of large-scale student assessments have relegated such personal interactions to the sidelines.
At Sincidium, we’re rekindling this ancient tradition, adapting oral evaluations to the digital classroom and enabling educators to interact with their students through digital extensions of themselves. In this new AI-driven educational landscape, we believe there’s no better measure of a student’s understanding than their ability to discuss topics articulately.
